Frequently Asked Questions

What is Rough Stuff?

Rough Stuff is a clear, spray-on coating that adds a fine grit to any surface. It’s designed to create traction between the ball and the paddle — helping players improve spin, control, and feel.

What does it do for pickleball paddles?

When applied to a paddle, Rough Stuff creates a micro-textured surface that increases grip on the ball. This added friction helps you generate more spin and hit more controlled shots.

How do I apply it?

Just spray on 1–2 light coats to a clean paddle face, let it dry, and allow at least 24 hours for full curing before play. Avoid heavy or uneven spraying for best results.

Does it dry sticky or tacky?

No — Rough Stuff dries hard and clear, with a non-tacky, fine textured finish.

Can I use it on surfaces other than paddles?

Yes! While it was originally designed for pickleball, Rough Stuff can be applied to most hard surfaces where extra grip or traction is helpful.

Is it USA Pickleball-approved or tournament legal?

Rough Stuff was formulated to stay within the surface roughness limits defined by the USA Pickleball, but it is not officially approved by any governing body. If you plan to play in sanctioned tournaments, we recommend checking the latest USA Pickleball rules or consulting a tournament director to ensure compliance.

How long does it last?

Durability depends on how often and aggressively you play. For maximum durability, allow Rough Stuff to cure on the paddle for several days after application. Reapply in light coats as needed to maintain traction.

Will it change the look of my paddle?

The spray dries clear and will add a slight “matte” finish that is mostly noticeable on shiny surfaces
